A sensational maiden IPL century from Tilak Varma guided the Mumbai Indians to a commanding 99-run victory over the Gujarat Titans in Match 30 of Indian Premier League 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday.
Put in to bat, Mumbai posted a formidable 199/5, riding on Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 101 off just 45 balls, his maiden IPL hundred. The left-hander’s innings, studded with eight fours and seven sixes, came at a crucial time after MI had stumbled early in the powerplay.

The innings began cautiously for Mumbai with debutant Danish Malewar and Quinton de Kock struggling to find rhythm against a disciplined new-ball spell from Mohammed Siraj. The breakthrough came quickly as Kagiso Rabada dismissed Malewar for 2 and then removed de Kock for 13 with a sharp return catch.
Rabada struck again to send back Suryakumar Yadav, leaving MI reeling at 46/3 at the end of six overs.
With the top order back in the pavilion, Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir steadied the innings with a composed 52-run stand. Dhir played a crucial supporting role, scoring 45 off 32 balls, before falling to Prasidh Krishna in the 13th over.
From there on, Tilak took charge. After reaching his half-century in 33 balls, he shifted gears brilliantly in the death overs, taking apart the GT attack with clean hitting and smart placement. His acceleration ensured Mumbai finished strongly, adding vital runs in the final overs to reach 199/5.
For Gujarat, Rabada was the standout bowler with figures of 3/33, while Siraj and Prasidh chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing 200, Gujarat Titans never found momentum as their innings unraveled from the very first ball. Jasprit Bumrah struck immediately, dismissing the in-form Sai Sudharsan for a golden duck to set the tone.
Early wickets continued to derail the chase as Jos Buttler and captain Shubman Gill fell cheaply, leaving GT struggling in the powerplay.
Washington Sundar showed brief resistance with a brisk 26 off 17 balls, while Shahrukh Khan contributed 17, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to cope with the relentless MI attack.
Impact substitute Ashwani Kumar turned the game decisively in Mumbai’s favour with a superb spell of 4/24, dismantling the middle and lower order. Mitchell Santner and Allah Ghazanfar provided strong support with two wickets apiece as Gujarat were bundled out for just 100 in 15.5 overs.
The victory marked Mumbai Indians’ first-ever win over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium and brought an end to their four-match losing streak, giving their campaign a much-needed boost.
